Discussion:
Should People Repent

Of course people should repent;
God always wants repentance.
Christians should live a life of repentance.
But know this:
You must not trust in your repentance
to save you because ALL TRUST
must be on Christ alone.
No matter how hard you try to repent,
your repentance will not save you.
You come INFINITELY SHORT
of the righteousness that God requires
for eternal life and that righteousness
is the righteousness of Christ himself.
You have NO OTHER CHOICE
than to trust CHRIST ALONE to be your righteousness
(that is, to TAKE YOUR PLACE, be your SUBSTITUTE)
rather than trusting yourself to be your righteousness,
and "yourself" means YOUR faith, YOUR repentance,
YOUR submission, YOUR surrender, YOUR efforts,
YOUR commitment, YOUR obedience, YOUR baptism,
YOUR church, all your claims to being righteous.
Otherwise you will not be saved.
So I call on everyone
who has ignored, suppressed, refused, opposed
the wonderful gospel of salvation that is
by grace alone thru faith alone in Christ alone
to REPENT and SUBMIT to the gospel of God.

Enter ye in at the strait gate:
for wide is the gate, and broad is the way,
that leadeth to destruction,
and many there be which go in thereat:
Because strait is THE GATE,
and narrow is THE WAY, which leadeth unto life,
and few there be that find it.
(Matthew 7:13-14 KJV)

I AM THE DOOR: BY ME if any man enter in,
he shall be saved, and shall go in and out,
and find pasture.
(John 10:9)

I AM THE WAY, the truth, and the life:
no man cometh unto the Father, BUT BY ME.
(John 14:6)

Why? If God is perfect, why is his creation so imperfect?

Great. I guess the rest of us can ignore it, then.

Darn. Just when I thought it was safe to go outside.

Then what's the point?

Is there such a thing as lefteousness?

The Hindus are not gonna like this.

But faith is a belief in something for which there is no proof. I like
proof - 80 proof is good. 90 proof is better.

I'm sure the people of New Orleans get a lot of comfort in knowing this.

(John 14:6)
"I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of
the house of slavery; you shall have no other gods before me." (Exodus
20:2-17)

- God, bringing his people out of the "house of slavery" and delivering
them into another "house of slavery". Also, admitting that there are other
gods.

That assumes that something has occurred that neccessitates repentence.

Of course people should repent;

Because He is the standard and we fail to live up to that
standard. He is the final reference point of all that exists.
He sets the rules. You play the game His way or you lose.

Why? If God is perfect, why is his creation so imperfect?
Because the God of the Bible is not the god of a pantheist.
He is separate from His creation. He granted His creation to
reason and dominion. He has personally revealed Himself
and His nature. It is we, not He who bares the blame.

Great. I guess the rest of us can ignore it, then.
Only for a time. Either until you experience death and
a separation from your psuedo existential view of life or
until you visibly see Him return in glory to put down the
kingdom of men. Sure, you can ignore for now. You
can ignore those tax bills you get too. "Pay me now
or pay me later."

As with all things, the point is it must be done
His way or it is a sheer nothingness. Again, He
has revealed His standard. If you choose to ignore
it or discount it, then the game continues on but
like in NASCAR, once your receive a black flag
your laps count for nothing. Only once your
correctly orient yourself, turning from sin and
turning God, humbly as a creature before his
Creator, can you expect ever to join the race.

That's a rather convenient excuse, isn't it?

As I recall, Ken Hovind ignored his taxes, and look where that got him.

Do you think that people can feel bad about hurting someone and not drag
religion into the matter? I do.

finally, a flash of insight in your posts, George! Yes, we are in very big
trouble. So big, if we really took it to heart, we would spend the rest of our
days in mourning and repentance, even forgetting to eat in the depth of our
mourning.

Perhaps that is true in his case, then again, perhaps not. More likely, you
fling this glib accusation at anyone who reminds you that _your_ way of life and
though has the wrong kind of fear, and even too little of that, and you should
feel an awful lot more guilt than you do.

IOW, he may have too much "fear and guilt", but you have far too little, and the
wrong kinds. Try searching out the mean between extremes for once.
