Marriage in California

I haven't seen it noted anywhere so I thought I would mention it.

The California Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8 which was intended
to prohibit same-sex marriages in California.

But they did it in such a way as to legalize same-sex marriages. They
interpreted the proposition to mean that California authorities cannot
issue any more marriage licenses to same-sex couples. But all 18,000
of the existing same-sex marriages are legal. And they said nothing
about the status of same-sex marriages from outside California.

So now same-sex marriage remains legal - even if no more can be made -
and the sky will not fall.

This should not be a religious issue. But some of the churches that
call themselves Christian made it into one.

On the whole, separation of church and state is a good thing for the
church. It seems as though every time a church tries to get involved
in government it ends up looking foolish. Of course, some churches,
like the Roman Catholics, don't seem to mind looking foolish. They
continue to lecture us on morality and we all know, now, what goes on
behind the closed doors.

B - bravo ! I've seen so many people use the reasoning of the literalness
of the Bible for reasons behind going against the freedom of some people.
I have to tell them that that is number 1 : their interpretation of those
passages, #2: not everyone in California is Christian and #3 should be a
separation of church and state.
We may as well go repeal giving black persons and women the vote...people
have used the Bible against these persons as well. Bigotry will find a
way.
We've had freedom of gays to marry in Canada for some time now and quoting
DKleinecke "the sky has not fallen".
Time for love to prevail.
