One Giant Step Toward Armageddon
22 August 2008

The story of Armageddon is found in the bible. It describes how the
forces of good and evil clash
between God and gog in a great battle towards the very end of our
existence.

This prophecy is found where the prophet Ezekiel is told to prophecy
toward the land of the North and
to the East of Israel known in that day as Gog.

This land today is known as Russia.

I find it very interesting that in this prophecy also found in the
book of Revelation as authored by
the apostle John a great angel is told to cross the river Euphrates
which is located in Iraq.

I would now like to turn your attention to what's happening in the
country of Georgia a former soviet
ruled country.

In July of this year the United States had been training Georgia and
other neighboring countries on a
military exercise. One might have though that Russia would never enter
a country where such exercises
were taking place but has rightly perceived NATO as being very weak. A
lot of bark but no bite.

Like the recent entry of Poland into the North Atlantic Treaty
Organization one decade ago Georgia too would like to become a member
one day soon. On the other hand Russia sees this as a serious threat
to its border.

Georgians like to brag about being the first nation to be declared a
Christian nation early in the 4th century as shown on their national
flag depicting five crosses. Actually former Georgia was in fact
several small countries and it was Iberia that first declared it was a
Christian nation. Later Iberia joined the kingdom of Georgia early in
the 11th. century.

The Gospel was preached in Georgia by the Apostles of Jesus, Andrew
the First Called, Simon the
Canaanite, and Matthias. Most of the population of Georgia (82%)
practices Orthodox Christianity.

Georgian soldiers have been well documented as being brave Christian
soldiers as witnessed on the
battle fields of WWII where half of the 700,000 soldiers that fought
during this era give the ultimate
sacrifice and died on the battlefield.

The President of Georgia graduated from Columbia University in the
United States and even worked in the
United States as a lawyer for a time. The Georgian President also
speaks along with his native tongue english and french. Ties between
Georgia and the Unites States are very strong as recently witnessed on
national
televison by US President George W. Bush and Secretery of State Rice.

President George W. Bush meet in Tbilisi during 2005 with Georgian
President Mikhail Saakashvili.

The United States flew Georgian soldiers out of Iraq and into Georgia
under the protest of former
Russian President and current Prime Minister Vladimir Putin all while
Georgia was being attacked by
Russian soldiers.

In the German magazine Spiegel dated 18.8.08 was found an article
titled: The Dangerous Neighbor and
shows Putin on its cover.

Russia has recently destroyed commercial ships and blocked the harbor
to Georgia from the Black Sea
leading one to believe that they don't plan to leave any time soon
even as Moscow promises daily.

Now let's look at the link between Israel and Georgia.

Several members in the Georgian parliament are Jewish and in fact most
of the military weapons that
entered Georgia are purchased from Israel.

Ah, Israel. Isn't that who's prophesied to fight Gog. America, as
everyone knows, is Israel greatest
alley. America would never abandon Israel and would fight with this
tiny armed to the teeth nation to
the bitter end.

If this doesn't sound sobering enough watch CNN and see for yourself
the havoc that Russia has caused
in the country of Georgia about the size of South Carolina.

Georgia has a new oil and natural gas pipeline running through the
middle of the country that supplies many of the energy needs of
Europe.

Now let's review the countries in which to watch for a resolution to
this matter of occupation of
Georgia by Russian forces.

Georgia, Israel, Russia and the United States. Lets also not forget
that Russia and Iran are great allies.

Europe, as well as the rest of modern civilization, fears what might
happen next with Russia when
America like NATO is perceived as being weak occupied with Iraq and
Afghanistan.

Weapons of mass destruction quickly enters ones mind as the whole
world has watched these two great
superpowers for 50 years. The Russian and American nuclear stockpiles
grew to massive proportions, then
were slightly reduced during the 1980's and mostly recently continue
to be refined into massive megaton bombs.

In fact, during the last test of an atomic bomb above ground, or on
ground level, scientist grew
alarmed as they feared they might ignite the upper atmosphere with the
enormous fireball in which it
created. Therefore future atomic weapons test was moved to be
performed underground.

The United States has publicly announced by its current president that
it reserves the right to first
strike if perceived that it troops might be under the likely attack of
weapons of mass destruction.

Most people have forgotten that current powers that rule the Russian
military aren't controlled by the
Russian President but by the generals of the Russian army. This policy
came about during the reign of a
former Russian president while he was in fact being attacked by the
Russian military. Eventually the
Russian President signed into act a former agreement to hand over
Russia's military powers to its
generals.

Considering whom rules Russia's military might and America's right to
the use of 'First Strike' under a
perceived threat to its military makes one a bit edgy. Especially
watching the events unfold in former
soviet occupied Georgia and considering the fact that both America and
NATO are considered weak and
occupied with other matters in the mind of Russia's former President
and current Prime Minister
Vladimir Putin.

I can't think of a worse situation in which we find ourselves watching
this brew into some deadly game
known in the foretold prophecy of an ancient era in which God will be
the only deterrent to Gog.

This myth has been popular since "The Last Days of Earth" was published in the
60s, but it _is_ nothing but a myth.

The words 'Gog' and 'Magog' are so rarely used in Scripture, we really don't
know where they are. But it does appear that Scythians lived there. But this
does NOT imply that it is Russia, since the Scythians lived in lots of places.

But even more important, the names of lands and peoples has changed SO much
since biblical times, with nations rising and falling, peoples blending into
other peoples or dying out, that it makes NO sense to claim that either Gog or
Magog represents any nation or people living today.

Why would you have thought this? That you would indicates that you do not have a
strong grasp of international affairs.

That is the image they paint. But even that is not so accurate. More important,
why are you posting on politics in soc.religion.christian?

This isn't right either. Armenia is first.

That is not such a witness to bravery. And even if it were, that would only make
them the rough equals of the Russians, who also suffered very high casualties to
defeat Hitler. In fact, Russians and Georgians fought side-by-side under their
common "Great Leader", Stalin, who as a Georgian.

I have seen it. CNN's coverage is not very good. To really follow what is going
on, one -must- go beyond CNN coverage. Deutsche Velle and Human Rights Watch are
other good sources. So is the BBC.

No, they are not. They were allies of convenience only since the "October
surprise", but the Russians have no illusions about the Iranians. They know that
the Iranian Revolution is an ideology that is hostile to Russia, and to all
Christianity.

No, that is nonsense. It was moved underground to prevent fallout, NOT because
anyone was afraid the atmosphere would ignite! Physicists have long known that
there is no 'ignition' that hydrogen-lithium fusion could trigger at the low
pressures of the upper atmosphere.

In fact, your statement here is SO far off, you cast doubt on most of your other
assertions, too. I would say the doubt is well-deserved.
