Gentlepeople,

Is there any place online that has just the complete words of Jesus
extracted from the Gospels? In other words, no story line, no words of
others, no commentaries, just the words of Jesus?

Thanks,

Tharpa

B - that's a curious one Tharpa.....the whole of the Bible is "other
voices". It was written long after Jesus was dead...so it only has what
some say are the words of Jesus.

Probably not. But there shouldn't be one, anyway. For despite what "red-letter
editions" imply, it is not always clear which are His own words, and which are
not. John 3:12-21 is the most famous such passage.

-------------------------------
Subducat se sibi ut haereat Deo
Quidquid boni habet tribuat illi a quo factus est
(Sanctus Aurelius Augustinus, Ser. 96)

----

[For those who aren't familiar with the original: There are no
quotation marks in 1st Cent Greek. It's sometimes not clear exactly
what is direct quote. The most common ambiguity is about where the
quotation ends. The Gospels don't have a lot of commentary anyway.
It's primarily narrative and dialog. I'm sort of unclear why someone
would trust the quotations but not the narrative. --clh]

Somewhere back in the sixties, I think someone did a book
something like _Sayings of Chairman Jesus_, sort of a knockoff
of Mao's "Little Red Book." You could always get a "red
letter" edition of the Bible.

I don't really see what you are going for here, Jesus' words
need their context, just like anyone elses.

The supposed source, Q, is pretty much just sayings of Jesus, though
most everything that would identify Jesus as any more than a mere man
has been removed.
All of the references to his Deity or Messiahship have been deemed
"later" and therefore not worthy of retention.
I wouldn't trust Q further than I could throw a copy for logical
reasons, but if you want a non-controversial, easy readin' Jesus that
doesn't try and convict of sin, then Q is your read.

I would have to agree with one of the other posters though: if it all
came from the same guys, and you don't trust them, then what makes you
think you could trust the way they copied the supposed words of Jesus?
