Dear All

Religion provides an important role in bonding and bridging social
capital. We are interested in investigating the relationship between
religious faith and social trust, an essential element of social
capital that facilitates the cooperation and sociability necessary for
the functioning of democratic societies. In our current research, we
focus particularly on the connection between strength of religious
faith and the degree of trust one bestows on an unknown e-commerce
website. There is a remarkable lack of research in this area.

We are in the process of completing a survey examining strength of
religious beliefs, trusting beliefs, and acceptance of online shopping.

For this, respondents are asked to evaluate the website
http://www.electricshopping.com. It will take approximately 10-15
minutes to complete the questionnaire. Survey responses will be
strictly anonymous and confidential and data from this research will be

reported only in aggregated format. We value your opinions and would
appreciate it if you would complete the survey at:

This is a multi-faith questionnaire.

Many thanks in advance

Stuart

This appears to be a ruse to include spam in this ng. Most of the
"survey" questions are about electricshopping.com and their over-priced
items, not about religion. I'm surprised this got past the moderator.

Actually it is not spam - it is an academic study. However, the
pre-test on this group has now been abandoned, due to a poor response
rate. Please do not post any more messages to this thread - I have
deleted the initial email for potential respondents and would
appreciate it if you do the same.

I should point out that the questionnaire was developed by my research
assistant for one of his research projects. I posted it for him on
Usenet as a pre-test; the main survey will use a stratified sample. He
is well qualified to do this research. The electricshopping website was
chosen somewhat arbitrarily as a site that is reasonable in its
usability but that is unlikely to be known by respondents.

The research uses strong, pre-validated constructs from the Santa Clara
Strength of Religious Faith (Short Version) instrument, the Technology
Acceptance Model (as applied to e-commerce by Gefen et al. and van der
Heijden), and McKnight et al.'s e-commerce trust instrument. Trust is
multi-dimensional (including benevolence, integrity and competence) and
is thus more complex than a simple yes/no.

Many thanks
